Residence Life
Welcome to your home away from home!
The Residence Life staff is here to assist you in many ways during your first year at Pitt. It is our priority to help you feel safe and comfortable in your room, your residence hall, and with fellow members of your community. Most importantly, we want you to develop relationships and connections with your peers, faculty, staff, and the University of Pittsburgh campus. Becoming involved on campus—through student organizations, community service, and participating in programs and events in your residence hall and beyond—will help you to create a balanced college experience and make Pitt feel like home.
Meet the Staff
Resident Assistants
The first Residence Life staff member you will most likely meet is your Resident Assistant, or RA. RAs at Pitt are sophomore, junior, or senior students who live on your floor and are there to serve as a resource for you and your community. In addition, your RA will help you to get involved in programs and activities both on your floor and throughout campus; RAs can provide you with information and resources about succeeding both inside and outside the classroom at Pitt, so take advantage of their knowledge and experience!
Resident Directors
Each residence hall is overseen by a full-time professional Resident Director, or RD. RDs live and work in your residence hall, supervise the Resident Assistant staff, and work with RAs to develop programs and activities that make your community a great place to live. Additionally, RDs also respond to student needs and emergencies 24 hours a day and serve as hearing officers to enforce the Student Code of Conduct. Most RD offices are located in the lobby of your residence hall; the Resident Directors of Holland, Bruce, McCormick, and Brackenridge Halls are all located in Brackenridge Hall. Meet the Resident Director staff.
