Pitt Odyssey & Other FYE Retreats


The Office of First Year Experience offers a variety of retreats for new and transfer students.  Please see the descriptions below along with the registration links and FAQ.  Please note that all retreats are open to new transfer and relocated students.
For all of the retreats, all meals and accommodations are provided.  There will be a schedule of events that will be provided to you.  Retreat activities accommodate students of all physical abilities and all activities are challenge by choice.

Financial Assistance: The Office of First Year Experience provides grants to assist with the registration fee to help eligible students who are experiencing a financial hardship. In order to be considered for assistance, you must be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant for academic year 2014-15. Eligible students will have the opportunity to request assistance during the registration process. 


Pitt Odyssey – Multiple dates, see below


Pitt Odyssey is a three day/ two night retreat designed to help you'll meet other Pitt students and staff and have an opportunity to make friends with other incoming students. This retreat will enhance your leadership skills, help you to become a better communicator and begin to prepare you for the rigors of college life.  During this retreat, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in team challenges, ropes courses, hikes, games, bonfires and much more.  You’ll stay on site at the retreat center and have the opportunity to relax and get to know your fellow classmates.


Pitt Odyssey will begin at 6pm on Friday and end at 2pm on Sunday.  The retreat occurs over the weekend and does not conflict with PittStart programming.


This year we are offering two Pitt Odysseys at two different sites:

Philadelphia: July 11-13 in Pottstown, PA.  Click HERE to register. (Deadline June 27th)

Pitt Odyssey costs $100 and includes all meals, accommodations and activities.  You can register online and pay with a credit card. 

*Transportation from Pitt’s campus, for the Pittsburgh Pitt Odyssey ONLY, will be provided at an additional cost (3 p.m. departure from the William Pitt Union).  We recommend that students couple this trip with their PittStart when possible. 

PittServes Retreat – August 15-17, 2014


The Offices of PittServes and First Year Experience invite you to participate in an opportunity focused on building a culture of service beginning your very first day of college. Join fellow members of the class of 2018 for the first annual retreat focusing on the importance of community service. Participating in this event offers you the chance to build meaningful relationships with fellow classmates who enjoy participating in service opportunities and to meet upper-class student leaders and alumni who are currently making a difference in their lives and the lives of others through service.  During this retreat you will have the opportunity to participate in service programs around the Pittsburgh area.  Join us and commit to finding your passion through school and service.

The PittServes retreat is a three day/ two night retreat that occurs prior to the start of Orientation.  There will be a fee to participate. Students who participate in this retreat will be able to move-in to their residence halls the morning of August 15th.  For more information and to register, please go to the PittServes website. 

The Pitt Serves Retreat costs $100 and includes all meals, accommodations and activities.  You can register online and pay with a credit card. 

 
Transfer Student Retreat – September 12-13, 2014

Being a new transfer student is challenging and it can often be difficult to meet and get to know other students.  This overnight retreat provides a quick get-a-way from campus that will help you to meet other transfer students, get more familiar with programs and services at Pitt, and meet the FYE staff and your transfer mentors.  More details will be coming soon.  There will be a minimal registration fee.
