First Year Mentors

Shannon Finley

Portrait of Shannon FinleyMy name is Shannon Marie Finley. Some call me Shaynaynay. I’m originally from Charlotte, NC. I moved to a small town called Douglassville in eastern Pennsylvania, but now I reside in the wonderful city of Pittsburgh. I'm a junior at the University and I am double majoring in Communications and Spanish, with a minor in Africana Studies. I'm involved in the Caribbean and Latin American Students Association here on campus.

I love the school because of its great location in an urban area that allows me to have access to things not available in the suburbs. I also love all the programs offered here for both academics and extracurricular activities. I wanted to be a first-year mentor because this position allows me to reach out to students that do not know about all the opportunities this school has to offer. I was a first-year commuter student. I moved to the city and enrolled in a school that I knew nothing of what was going on or to happen. I found out everything basically by asking people because I'm just that nosy and curious. I'm excited for orientation with all the first-year students because they’re going to be just as scared and excited as I was, because anything can happen!
