About FYE

On behalf of the First Year Experience (FYE) office, welcome to the University of Pittsburgh. What an exciting journey you and your family have a head of you. The first year of college is one of excitement, challenges, and changes. Adjusting to a large student community, living away from home or commuting, and feeling connected are factors many students encounter and need assistance with during their first year. The FYE office strives to provide new students with a variety of experiences, both before and after they arrive on campus, to assist with their transition.

These programs are designed to help students get connected, engage in activities outside the classroom, and build relationships with their peers, staff & faculty. In addition, FYE strives to connect parents and families through many of the programs and events held over the summer, during New Student Orientation and beyond.

FYE is housed in the Department of Student Life but is a collaboration between Student Life and Residence Life, thus ensuring we are reaching all our first-year students in and outside of the residence halls.

The FYE office has many programs. This Web site will help you learn about them before you come to campus and keep you connected and involved throughout your first year. These programs are planned by dedicated and caring staff that want to help make your first year of college the best it can be.
